Statement regarding the termination of Virginia Air Pollution Control Board members

November 16th 2018

It is extremely concerning to see the termination of two members of the Virginia Air Pollution Control Board, Rebecca Rubin and Sam Bleicher. This board is expected to decide on December 10th regarding the permit for the compressor station at Union.

A few months ago, Governor Northam dismissed a letter from his Environmental Justice Advisory council that recommended halting construction of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. These two actions send the message if you are critical of the pipeline projects, your advisement will be ignored, or you will be replaced.

Governor Northam will listen to advice from Dominion Energy but not the independent councils created to advise him on matters of air pollution and environmental justice. It must be noted that Dominion Energy has donated $508,940 to our legislators in 2018. Since 2010, Dominion Energy has donated $6,792,288 to influence our legislators. This money is given to both sides of the aisle. A total of $199,251 has been given to our Governor from Dominion Energy.

People across the Commonwealth have stated their opposition to the ACP, MVP, and the compressor station at Union Hill. Advisers to our Governor have stated their opposition to these projects. We are being ignored and future generations will have to pay the price.
